Latest Updates

Please check back periodically as conditions may change quickly. We appreciate your patience as Atmos Energy crews work diligently to restore service. We will post updates as they become available.

March 14, 2025

1:30 p.m.

Atmos Energy crews have completed the process of turning off service to each meter affected by the outage. We will now begin purging the distribution system. During this step, you may smell the distinctive “rotten egg” or skunk-like odor that makes natural gas detectable in the air.

When purging is complete, Atmos Energy crews will begin going door-to-door to safely restore gas service and relight appliances. This is an extensive process that will take some time, so we have deployed additional resources, including highly trained technicians from other areas, to help restore service as quickly and safely as possible.

When the system is ready to be restored, we will communicate directly to customers in the affected area with a valid mobile number on file via text message. We will continue to provide updates to this page.

When natural gas service is ready to be restored, here’s what you can expect:

  • Your natural gas piping and appliances must pass a safety check.
  • A resident of the home or an authorized representative of the business who is 18 years of age or older must be present for the restoration services to be performed.
  • We will need access to your natural gas meter throughout this process.
  • You may choose to have an Atmos Energy technician enter your home or business to relight gas appliances that are accessible and in a safe working condition. However, this is not a substitute for routine or manufacturer-recommended safety inspections and maintenance of your appliances and gas piping. Your gas piping and appliances are your responsibility and should be inspected periodically.
  • If you are not home or at your business when our crews are restoring service, we will leave a door tag with instructions. For questions regarding your natural gas service, please call 866.322.8667.

For any questions you may have about your natural gas service, our customer service line is available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 888.286.6700.

A press release about the gas outage in the towns of Belden, Guntown, Plantersville, Saltillo, Shannon, Tupelo, and Verona can be found here

Atmos Energy is working safely and efficiently to restore gas to these areas. While our efforts began yesterday, full restoration of gas service requires a multi-step process that will take some time to complete.  Over the past 24 hours, Atmos Energy’s technicians have been going door-to-door to turn off the gas at each customer’s meter.  We are also in the process of completing repairs to the upstream gas supply system. We will then begin taking steps to safely restore service to customers. During the restoration process, Atmos Energy crews will again go door-to-door to safely restore gas service and relight appliances. Because this is an extensive process, we cannot yet provide an estimate of when service will be restored.

More than 200 Atmos Energy employees from across our eight-state footprint have arrived to our command center in Tupelo to assist with restoration efforts, and more employees and Atmos Energy contractors are on their way. However, you will not have natural gas service until repairs and safety checks are completed. Then a highly trained safety technician can safely begin the restoration process and relight appliances.  We are beginning work early in the morning and will continue until around midnight each day.

The safety of our communities, employees, and contractors remains our highest priority. The impacted areas are safe, and no evacuations have been issued.

For any questions you may have about your natural gas service, our customer service line is available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 888.286.6700.
