DALLAS (Oct. 20, 2017) - As many people along the Texas coast are rebuilding and recovering after the devastating impact from Hurricane Harvey, stories of Texans reaching out to provide relief demonstrates the importance of a helping hand.

Atmos Energy joined the effort to help those impacted by Harvey by donating to Gov. Greg Abbott’s Rebuild Texas Fund. The Rebuild Texas Fund is focusing aid efforts on residents who are in the greatest need after the storm like children, elderly, disabled individuals and low-income families and communities.

“Rebuilding communities and lives after such a devastating storm is a team effort throughout the state and Atmos Energy is just one of many groups that is pulling resources together to help those in need,” President and CEO of Atmos Energy Mike Haefner said. “Helping our neighbors and giving back is part of our core values at Atmos Energy and seeing the joint response from so many has been inspiring. We’re all in this together.”

Atmos Energy service centers also collected new items and supplies for the local shelters that were housing Texans escaping the flood waters. Along with donations, a handful of Atmos Energy employees took time off to head to the Houston area to rescue stranded people from their homes. Several employees even used a small crane to lift people from second-story apartments and houses to bring them to safety. Read more about those stories here.
