Atmos Energy Ranks Number One in Customer Satisfaction

For Atmos Energy, “exceptional customer service” is a stated priority in our company vision. With a better understanding of the customer experience, companies can optimize the quality of their products and services and create positive, long-lasting results. Since 1994, the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) has been a powerful indicator of cross-industry satisfaction levels among customers in the U.S. economy. Using technology developed by Dr. Claes Fornell and a team of researchers at the University of Michigan, the ASCI tracks customer satisfaction with more than 400 of the largest corporations in the U.S. marketplace.  

After input from 28,873 residential customers chosen at random, Atmos Energy claimed the number one spot in the latest ACSI Energy Utilities Study with a score of 77 (one point higher than last year).

Residential customer satisfaction relies heavily on a utility’s ability to provide reliable service and restore service following an outage. As energy utilities face increased challenges of extreme weather events, they are also seeing a spike in attacks on the U.S. power grid. Per Politico, last year’s 101 physical and cyberattacks on equipment that delivers electricity nationwide is the highest number of attacks since 2012. Along with providing exceptional customer service, Atmos Energy’s vision is to be the safest provider of natural gas services. Dickson said that safety and the AtmoSpirit culture are what drive his team’s performance.  

“In the states where we operate, our team sees a variety of events that cause us to be quick on our feet, and we do it well. We address each situation with intention and experience, and we get the gas back on as soon as it is safe to do so,” added Dickson. “Our focus on safety comes out in every call we take and every site our technicians visit. Our employees are the heart and soul of the company.” 

The ACSI Energy Utilities Study 2022-2023 shows satisfaction with natural gas service is unchanged at a score of 75 and remains ahead of electricity’s score of 72.
