JACKSON, Miss. - One of our priorities as a good corporate citizen is to give back to the communities we serve. We strive to provide the safe delivery of natural gas to our customers each day.

Mississippi Division President David Gates rappelling down 14 stories.

On a spring morning in Jackson, Mississippi, participants gathered at the Trustmark Bank corporate office building to repel down 14 stories. Atmos Energy was a one of the sponsors of the "Over the Edge with Friends" event to raise support for patients at Children's Hospital.

Division President, David Gates, who participated in the challenge, said, " Once I understood the training, equipment, and safety provisions; it definitely “inspired trust” and I stepped out of my comfort zone and enjoyed the moment even though it was an intimidating situation. “

Gates was one of 76 company representatives throughout Mississippi, who climbed down the building with the help of ropes and rappelling experts. The event, which was co-sponsored by Atmos Energy, raised $180,000 for Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson for sick and injured children.

Atmos Energy acquired the highly respected Mississippi Valley Gas Company in 2002. MVG had a long history of service to communities throughout Mississippi, starting with its formation as an independent natural gas utility in 1951 by Mississippi banker Robert Hearin and oilman Leon Hess. Previously, the gas operations had been part of Mississippi Power & Light Company. Today, Atmos Energy’s Mississippi Division is the largest natural gas distributor in the state.
