May 5, 2021

Every year, Atmos Energy publishes its Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Report illustrating our commitment to safety, strong governance, investments in employees and infrastructure, preserving and protecting the environment, and Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities.  Those efforts are earning national recognition as Atmos Energy was named to Newsweek’s 2021 list of America’s Most Responsible Companies based on publicly available key performance indicators and an independent survey. Newsweek partnered with global data research firm Statista to recognize companies that are good corporate citizens, give back to the communities where they operate, and actively protect the environment.

We are proud to be recognized by Newsweek as one of America’s Most Responsible Companies.  This reflects the compassion and commitment of our 4,700 employees to give back to our communities and to do our part to protect and preserve our environment for generations to come,” said Kevin Akers, Atmos Energy president and CEO.”

For example, in 2020 we donated more than $14 million through our Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities initiative to fuel bright minds and healthy futures for kids by enhancing childhood literacy and reducing food insecurity.  As well as fueling hope for our neighbors through our donation to more than 100 energy assistance partners to ensure homes and businesses had reliable natural gas service when they needed it most.

Atmos Energy works hard to protect and preserve our environment today and for generations to come, and our goal to reduce methane emissions by 50 percent from 2017 to 2035 is essential to our environmental commitment. Furthermore, we joined Our Nation’s Energy Future Coalition (ONE Future), a voluntary alliance of leading companies across the natural gas supply chain focused on technology and policy solutions to drive continual improvement in the reduction of methane emissionsBeing a ONE Future member includes a commitment to measuring, reporting, and tracking key emissions metrics in accordance with ONE Future protocols, reflecting our continued commitment to responsible, sustainable practices in our natural gas distribution, transmission, and storage operations.

Strong corporate governance is also core to our culture and our values, because leading with integrity is essential for conducting our business ethically, instilling accountability in our employees, and working with business partners who share our high standards and principles. We expect everyone to take responsibility for doing what is right for all stakeholders.  We are committed to continuous improvement by providing communication channels for employees, contractors, and the public to offer feedback or make recommendations for improvements to safety, risk identification, prevention, and mitigation.

Newsweek conducted a detailed analysis beginning with a pool of over 2,000 companies that were screened by a variety of criteriaThen an independent survey was conducted among more than 7,500 U.S. residents along with research-based on publicly available key performance indicators derived from Corporate Annual Reports, CSR Reports, Sustainability Reports, and Corporate Citizenship Reports. The final list recognizes the 400 most responsible companies with the highest scores.
