Home Warranty Day Reminders from Atmos Energy

Safety
February 10, 2021

Our homes are filled with complex appliances, technology, and infrastructure – including the natural gas piping that delivers safe, reliable, affordable, and efficient energy – and it’s important to remember that proper care for your home’s internal organs is essential to preserve everyday household comforts.

With that in mind, we recommend that your buried gas piping be inspected periodically by a licensed plumber or qualified contractor and, if any concerns are uncovered, necessary repairs can be made as soon as possible.

In most states we serve, except Kansas, the homeowner is responsible for natural gas piping on your property from the gas meter to your home or business. In the same way that your electric utility does not service the electrical wiring in your home, Atmos Energy does not maintain the natural gas lines on your property.

Customer-owned natural gas lines include all the piping from:

  • Our natural gas meter to the appliances on your property
  • Our natural gas meter to the home or business (when the meter is distanced from the home)
  • Our underground natural gas meter to a building, pool heater, barbecue, or other natural gas appliances.

For your safety, please operate appliances in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions, and natural gas piping should be tested or inspected periodically by a licensed plumber.
