Atmos Energy Recognizes Military Heroes in Energy During Military Appreciation Month

National Military Appreciation Month (NMAM) is celebrated every May and is a declaration that honors current and former members of the United States Armed Forces, including those who have died in the pursuit of freedom. May is characterized by six national observances highlighting the contributions of those who have served, including Loyalty Day, Public Service Recognition Week, Victory in Europe Day, Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Armed Forces Day, and Memorial Day.   

According to the U.S. Energy and Employment reportveterans account for about 8 percent to 11 percent of the approximately 9.2 million jobs in the U.S. energy sector and make up 6 percent of the U.S. workforce overall, with 8 percent in the natural gas industry.  Veterans come to the civilian workforce with extensive technical and nontechnical skills gained through military experience and training.  The unique nature of military service prepares veterans tstay focused on objectives while adapting to changes, handle high stress and high stakes environments, operate under physically demanding and rigorous conditions, and display mature work ethic based on core values such as personal integrity and respect for authority.  

At Atmos Energy, more than 290 veterans and active-duty military team members impact all areas of the company, contributing their leadership, rigorous work ethic, talents, backgrounds, and experiences to be the safest provider of natural gas services. Atmos Energy veterans are leaders, executives, engineers, service technicians, construction crew leads, accountants, customer service agents, marketing associates, public affairs managers, human resources team members, instructional technology experts, workforce development creators, company culture facilitators, security specialistsand operational support team members. 

Atmos Energy has partnered with local veteran and military organizations and nonprofits that connect job-seeking veterans, active-duty military, and their spouses to Atmos Energy career opportunities.  In addition, Atmos Energy team members have served as mentors in local veteran and military mentorship programs to support their transition to the civilian workforceprovide coaching on vital employment search techniques, and advise on military-to-civilian cultural differences
