Employees recently celebrated the opening of a compressed natural gas (CNG) fill station at Waste Management of Northern Colorado. The facility currently has 10 trucks on site using CNG, with plans to expand to 48 in the near future.

Waste Management provides garbage collection to residential, commercial and industrial customers in Weld County, and estimates it will save about 88,000 gallons of diesel annually. Natural gas also supplies heating for onsite offices, paint booth and hot-water washing facilities. With 48 trucks, the facility will use about 166 Mcf per day. The typical residence averages about 75 Mcf per year.

“I am thankful to participate in a project with great environmental implications as well as positive economic impacts to the customer,” said Industrial Accounts Manager Daniel Brakenhoff, who facilitated the CNG project.

“Our amazing team of Operations, Engineering, Measurement and Legal personnel all pitched in to make this a success.”

“We are thrilled to assist WM in their journey toward reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions,” added Public Affairs Vice President Jennifer Altieri. “As we all strive to be good stewards of the environment, it is exciting to see where Atmos Energy will be in the next 5 to 10 years, as we continue to modernize our system and make it safer and more efficient and reliable, while reducing our GHG emissions.”
