Many have heard the saying, “dogs are a man’s best friend.” To wounded or disabled veterans, dogs are more than companions. They represent an avenue to assimilate back into society after returning home. To support the cause of providing veterans with service dogs, Atmos Energy’s Mid-Tex Sales and Public Affairs team donated more than $1,000 to Patriot PAWS.

Patriot PAWS is an organization that trains and provides service dogs at no cost to disabled American veterans and others with mobile disabilities and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Each dog undergoes extensive training for two and half years before being matched with a veteran.

Prior to the donation presentation, employees got to meet Payton, a young chocolate Labrador retriever, when presenting the donation. They were able to watch a demonstration of his skills and were in awe of his discipline and gentle nature.

“We got to see first-hand the work that goes into training these dogs for our veterans,” said Randy Beard, account manager for Atmos Energy and donation organizer. “It’s an honor to support an organization like this. Our employees donated these funds out of their own pockets. I feel that says a lot about our employees’ hearts for others.”
