Winter Storm Information

We understand your concerns regarding the recent extreme weather and its effect on your natural gas bill. We want to assure our customers that bills in the near-term will not include any of the unusually high gas prices from the historic winter storms.

Atmos Energy does not set the market pricing for natural gas. There is no profit added to the gas cost. We have been and will continue working with regulators to find solutions that will minimize the impact on monthly bills. Until those solutions are identified, the gas cost portion of a customer’s bill will reflect normal, seasonal gas prices.

February and March bills may still be higher than recent months based on the amount of gas used during the bitterly cold weather.

To see your natural gas usage, visit the online Account Center or contact our customer service team 888.286.6700 (M-F, 7-6 CST).

If your meter was scheduled to be read during the historic weather event, for safety reasons our teams may not have read your meter. In that case, you will receive an estimated bill that is calculated by considering past usage and adjusting it for that month's weather conditions. If this bill is incorrect, any over- or under-charge will be corrected the following month. That way, you will still be billed only for the gas you actually use.

Your natural gas consumption increases as temperatures get colder. Any day the temperatures outside are lower than the temperature the thermostat is set at you are using heat and the colder it is the harder the appliance works to maintain the temperature inside the home.

All curtailments related to February’s historic winter storm have been lifted.  During any winter season, using energy wisely and making a few household changes can produce a big difference in how much you spend on natural gas and other energy bills. Plus, you will lower your home's carbon emissions when you use less energy. Atmos Energy offers a number of energy saving tips here.  

It is important to be aware of impostors, especially after a storm. Below are several examples of ways impostors target utility customers: 

Employee Impostor
  • Always ask for an employee’s identification badge, which displays name, photograph, and Atmos Energy logo. 
  • If you suspect an impostor, call our customer service number at 888-286-6700 to verify the employee's identity and contact local authorities.
  • Beware of impostors demanding payment at your door. Our employees will not collect payments in person. 
Email Scams
  • Beware of bogus emails requesting immediate payment of your bill, particularly with prepaid debit cards.
  • Verify that your account number listed is correct.
  • Do not click on any links in the suspicious email as many contain viruses.
  • Verify your account balance through our online Account Center.
Telephone Scams
  • Telephone scams are also on the rise, where people pose as utility employees and demand immediate payment of past due balances. Atmos Energy will not demand payment by a prepaid debit card. 
  • If you ever have concerns about the legitimacy of a call, please hang up and call our customer service number at 888-286-6700.
  • Our employees do not call after business hours unless there is an emergency.
