Atmos Energy has grown from 279,000 customers in 1983 mainly by acquiring utility assets. The company has regulated utility operations in Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. We are the largest natural gas distributor in the states of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
The Colorado-Kansas Division of Atmos Energy Corporation serves a diverse geographic region from the Western Slope of Colorado, across the Front Range, over the plains of western and central Kansas to the rolling hills on the state’s eastern edge.
The Louisiana Division was Atmos Energy’s first acquisition. It was formed by the purchases in 1986 of Trans Louisiana Gas Company and in 2001 of Louisiana Gas Service Company and its LGS Natural Gas Company.
In 2004, Atmos Energy acquired the regulated distribution and pipeline operations of TXU Gas Company to form the Mid-Tex Division and Atmos Pipeline–Texas Division. These operations have deep roots going back to the 1870s and the founding in 1909 of Lone Star Gas Company.
Atmos Energy acquired the highly respected Mississippi Valley Gas Company in 2002. MVG had a long history of service to communities throughout Mississippi, starting with its formation as an independent natural gas utility in 1951.
